Alexandru Telea got his PhD in scientific visualization in 2000 at the TU Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He worked there as assistant professor in visualization until 2007. Since then, he is full professor on multiscale visual analytics at the Faculty of Science, University of Groningen, the Netherlands. In 2019, he will start a new appointment as full professor in Visual Data Analytics at the Department of Information and Computing Sciences, Utrecht University, the Netherlands. His research interests are in high-dimensional data visualization, graph bundling, visual analytics for machine learning, and software visualization. He published over 250 peer-reviewed papers and is the author of "Data Visualization: Principles and Practice" (CRC Press, 2014).
