Well, this is a fair argument, but are these questions always true? I believe that some good InfoVis accomplishments could be not based on specific applications. --Yijisoo 21:57, 8 January 2007 (CET)

Hmm - I think that he is right for most InfoVis papers presented at conferences. There is only a small fraction of works that cannot be based on specific applications. But still their usability and utility should also be shown and proven by the creators. Interactive visual techniques are not good or superior to non-visual ones by nature - there need to be justifications. And certainly the community needs to strive for broader application of InfoVis in industry - for which use cases, succress stories, and application scenarios are vital. -- Wolfgang Aigner 09:51, 10 January 2007 (CET)
