Dynamic queries allow the visual querying of data possibly from a database through graphical interface elements, e.g., sliders. Instead of using a special purpose query language, the person seeking information should be able to "rapidly, safely, and even playfully explore a database" [Shneiderman, 1994]. The concept of dynamic queries is based on the idea of direct manipulation.
