The Australian Research Council (ARC) recently funded an Information Visualisation project in the School of Information Technologies. The project is under the leadership of Professor Peter Eades.

Established as the first computer science department in Australia, the School of Information Technologies (SIT) is research intensive and has a strong tradition of research-led teaching. We offer an advanced technology-centric undergraduate program with interdisciplinary links with commerce, arts, science, medical science and law and attract some of Australia's highest achieving undergraduate students.

We now seek a creative Computer Scientist with a passion for Information Visualisation to take a leading research role in the project. As a Research Fellow, the focus of your work will be in creating, analysing and demonstrating visualisation and interaction methods for a variety of data types. You will also be involved in the supervision of research students, and assist with liaison with the industrial partners.

You will have creative flare in visual arts as well as a strong scientific background. You must have received a PhD in a relevant discipline, and have an outstanding record of creativity and innovative research. An interest in the visual arts will be an advantage and research experience in graph drawing, graph algorithms, and/or computational geometry will be highly regarded.

This is an opportunity to work in close collaboration with two industrial partners, Tom Sawyer Software in the USA and NewtonGreen Technologies in Australia.

The position is available from early 2012 and is full-time for three years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory confirmation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: $90K p.a. including leave loading and 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. Please note that if needed, visa sponsorship will be available for the successful appointee, and level of appointment will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
