VizSec2011 Announces Call for Papers

8TH International Symposium on Visualization for Cyber Security to be held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA

NORTHPORT, NY, February 2, 2011 – Organizers of VizSec2011, the international conference on information visualization for cybersecurity, today announced its “Call for Papers”. The 8th Annual International Symposium on Visualization for Cyber Security (VizSec) will be held July 20, 2011 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. VizSec2011 will be held in conjunction with the Symposium on Usable Privacy and Security (SOUPS 2011).

The annual symposium joins academic, government, and industry leaders from around the globe to share the latest developments and applications of visualization techniques to address current cyber security challenges. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit technical papers and panel session proposals that offer a novel contribution to security visualization. Papers are encouraged on new visualization technologies and methods that have been applied and demonstrated to be useful in a range of security domains including, but not limited to, computer forensics, risk assessment, cryptography, malware analysis, and situational awareness. Submitted papers will be refereed by members of the VizSec2011 Organizing Committee for inclusion in the technical program and symposium proceedings. Chairs of the VizSec2011 Organizing Committee are Lt. Col. Gregory Conti (U.S. Military Academy at West Point), John Gerth (Stanford University), Tamara Yu (MIT Lincoln Laboratory), Marc Abbott (U.S. Military Academy at West Point) and Anita D’Amico (Secure Decisions division of Applied Visions, Inc.). The Organizing Committee will also select an accepted paper to receive the VizSec 2011 Best Paper award.

The deadline for full paper submissions is April 1, 2011 and panel abstracts are due by April 15, 2011. Submission guidelines for papers and panel proposals are available online at www.vizsec2011.org. The symposium organizers encourage early submissions as they are anticipating increased interest this year. Accepted papers for VizSec will again be published and available from ACM Digital Library as part of the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series.
