Vorgenommene Änderungen

Vorher: Visual Variables are a specified set of modifications that can be applied to objects in order to encode information.

Nacher: Visual Variables are a specified set of symbols that can be applied to data in order to translate information.

Vorher: The question is, if there are basic visual symbols that, arranged in a particular way, can be used to convey information in a similar manner.

Naher: The question is: If there are basic visual symbols arranged in a particular way, can they be used to convey information in a similar manner?

Vorher: All of those developments were primarily made for cartographic purposes and only later adapted and used for information visualisation.

Zusätzlich wurde unter "Purpose and Develpment" folgendes hinzugefügt: "The concept of information visualization began in the 1930's, but after the 1950's became more developed by cartographers. Since the development of computers has revolutionized all aspects of information visualization.

Mapmaking with pan and paper become unnecessary. Map making software such as CAD, GIS and specialized map illustration software became very important."


Außerdem wurde der Text durch die Überschriften Jaques Bertin und Jock D. Mackinlay gegliedert.

Der folgende Absatz wurde modifiziert und unter Jaques Bertin eingefügt: "Jaques Bertin described marks as these basic units and also developed a given number of methods these units can be modified with, such as position, size, shape, or color."

Außerdem wurde eine kurze Info zu Jock D. Mackinlay's Person hinzugefügt.

Wegen der Unübersichtlichkeit der textuellen Beschreibung der Tasks wurde diese durch ein Bild ersetzt.

Beurteilung der Beschreibung

Die Beschreibung des Begriffs war ansonsten ok. Es gab auch eine kurze Definition, die jedoch ein wenig ungeschickt formuliert war und von uns, wie o.a. verändert wurde. Das Bild von Jaquin Bertin ist sehr ausagekräftig, jedoch vermissten wir beim Jock D. Mackinlay eine graphische Darstellung der Tasks. Diese unübersichtliche Auflistung der Tasks wurde daher von uns durch ein repräsentative Illustration ersetzt. Soweit wir es beurteilen können, wurden alle Quellen angegeben. Diese waren jedoch nicht richtig formatiert. Statt der Fußnoten waren die Nachnamen mit dem Erscheinungsjahr angegeben. Für die Ausarbeitung wurden drei Quellen herangezogen, die von uns durch zwei wiki-links erweitert wurden. Auch die Quelle auf der Image-Site wurde korrekt angegeben.
