Stephen C. North received the PhD degree in computer science from Princeton University in 1986. He is director of Information Visualization Research at the AT&T Shannon Laboratory.

His research interests include graph layout and visualization for spatial data mining. He is a member of the ACM, a senior member of IEEE, and a member of the IEEE Computer Society.
