HP Labs - Research Associate, Visual Analytics-1252047 Description We are currentlyseeking highly qualified, self-motivated interns with deep technical expertisein information visualization methodologies and visual analytics systems toaccelerate HP's research towards new applications, core methodologies, andsystems in Analytics at HP Labs. Hewlett-PackardLaboratories is an international research organization with its headquartersand largest facility located in Palo Alto, California. As HP's central researchorganization, HP Labs' purpose is to deliver breakthrough technologies andtechnology advancements that provide a competitive advantage for HP, byinvesting in fundamental science and technology in areas of interest to HP andgetting the resulting technologies ready for adoption into new and existingmarkets. The HP LabsAnalytics Lab is responsible for research in analytics systems, technologies,and infrastructure as well as applications and visualization. We are developingnew platforms for enabling distributed and secure analytics workloads at cloudscale. At the same time, we are innovating in algorithms and analytics methodsthat enable business questions to arise proactively from data and becomeaccessible to business users. Finally, we are showcasing novel applications,solutions and visualizations of the data to derive value in unanticipated ways.Examples include improvements to search, visualization and data immersionturning data into actionable information; sensing and control analytics to betterunderstand the physical world around us; and shaping the future of analytics atzetta scale – what will happen when big data becomes truly big, and truly fast. We are seekinghighly qualified candidates to come join our research for an internship, withthe possibility of longer term co-innovation and collaboration. We areparticularly interested in individuals with a background in informationvisualization, visual analytics, computer graphics, human-computer interaction,systems, algorithms, or the data sciences, with a good understanding of thecurrent state of the art, major trends and opportunities, and a demonstratedtrack record in making things real in innovative ways. The idealcandidate combines this interest with a broad, entrepreneurial interest increating the next generation of HP’s products and technologies and theopportunities that come with working in partnership with our rapidly growingInformation Optimization businesses and select customers and partners. We expect all ourresearchers (including interns) to provide thought leadership and technicalinfluence both internally and externally to HP, as well as take innovativeideas and make them real – contributing along the full range from initial novelideas to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technologytransfer. The ideal candidate can thrive in an applied research environment,balancing significant technical and scientific contributions with the abilityto bring such contributions to practice through innovative solutions thataddress the needs of HP's customers and partners. We expect the successfulcandidate to collaborate with HP Labs research teams as well as with externalpartners, and to work in alignment with HP's broader innovation community. Qualifications Education and Experience - Pursuing or recently completed BS/MS/PhD degree (or other degree with significant research/innovation experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g. information visualization, computer science, human-computer interaction, information technology, engineering, math, physics, etc.) - Track record of world-class innovative contributions and ideas - Experience with innovative solution development, such as developing proofs-of-concept, first-of-a-kind solutions, and/or technology transfer. Technical Skills: - Ability to develop rapid understanding of select problems and opportunities - Deep understanding of the relevant environment, ecosystem, trends, and literature - Excellent research and programming skills - Ability to innovate, make research contributions, and bring ideas to reality in compelling ways - Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English - Strong track record to work independently and in teams
