Gutwin, Carl
Carl Gutwin is associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and the director of the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) lab at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada).
His main research areas are Computer-Supported Cooperative Work, Information Visualization, and Information Retrieval. In particular, he's interested in ways that groupware systems can better support the fluid and natural interaction that is evident in face-to-face collaboration. In a recent project, he used the idea of workspace awareness - knowledge of where people are and what they are doing in a shared workspace - to improve the usability of a groupware application.
