The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a

University Professorship (Salary Scale W2 BBesO) in Visual Analytics

starting on January 15st, 2015. The position is initially limited to five years.
The professorship is connected with the leadership of the research department of the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB).
The applicant should have a strong research and publication record in Visual Analytics, for example in

  • (Interactive) information visualization in digital libraries and the Web
  • Visual search and analysis of big complex data sets, nontextual materials, research data and social media
  • Interaction with and exploration of big and complex data sets
  • (Interactive) data analysis and knowledge discovery
  • Data management and knowledge representation for digital libraries
  • Affinity to usability, human computer interaction and/or semantic visualization


Visual analytics plays an important role in the research program of TIB, a member institute of the German Leibniz Association. A strong cooperation with TIB research and its competence center for nontextual materials is expected, as well as interdisciplinary research and acquisition of third party funding. Within the faculty the professorship should contribute to the M.Sc. study programs of computer science as well as internet technologies and information systems.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with § 25, Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (NHG).
Leibniz Universität Hannover is a member of Niedersachsen Institutes of Technology (NTH), to which the vacant professorship is also attached. Candidates are therefore expected to participate in coordinated interdisciplinary programmes and to collaborate in research and teaching with the technical universities in Lower Saxony, and especially within the NTH.
