John Wilder Tukey (1915-2000), statistician. Tukey was working at Princeton University and with AT&T Bell Laboratories delivering countless contributions to a variety of statistical problems influencing not only the scientific community but also a significant part of civil society.

Among his achievements are the distinction between exploratory and confirmatory data analysis, the development of box plots, and a very popular Fast Fourier Transform algorithm.
