Dennis P. Groth is a researcher in the field of information visualization and an associate professor at the Indiana University. He also gained substantial industry experience, as manager and consultant in various software projects and firms prior to his academic career.

Groth received his B.S. degree in Computer Science at the Loyola University of Chicago in 1983. He subsequently started working in the software industry before he decided to enter graduate school. His major industry occupations are outlined in the following:

Groth‘s main research interest is in database visualization, data mining and human-computer interaction. He especially focuses on exploring ways in which visualizations can be manipulated in the same fashion as the data that the visualizations are generated from. In developing such techniques Groth sees an opportunity to facilitate knowledge gain for the user.
