The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a

University Professorship (Salary Scale W2 BBesO) in Visual Analytics[edit]

starting on January 15st, 2015. The position is initially limited to five years.
The professorship is connected with the leadership of the research department of the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB).
The applicant should have a strong research and publication record in Visual Analytics, for example in

  • (Interactive) information visualization in digital libraries and the Web
  • Visual search and analysis of big complex data sets, nontextual materials, research data and social media
  • Interaction with and exploration of big and complex data sets
  • (Interactive) data analysis and knowledge discovery
  • Data management and knowledge representation for digital libraries
  • Affinity to usability, human computer interaction and/or semantic visualization

Visual analytics plays an important role in the research program of TIB, a member institute of the German Leibniz Association. A strong cooperation with TIB research and its competence center for nontextual materials is expected, as well as interdisciplinary research and acquisition of third party funding. Within the faculty the professorship should contribute to the M.Sc. study programs of computer science as well as internet technologies and information systems.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with § 25, Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (NHG).
Leibniz Universität Hannover is a member of Niedersachsen Institutes of Technology (NTH), to which the vacant professorship is also attached. Candidates are therefore expected to participate in coordinated interdisciplinary programmes and to collaborate in research and teaching with the technical universities in Lower Saxony, and especially within the NTH. For more information on NTH please visit http://en.nth-online.org.
Part time employment can be arranged on request. As an equal opportunities employer, Leibniz Universität Hannover has set itself the strategic aim of significantly increasing the proportion of women. Female scientists are therefore particularly encouraged to apply. Applications from abroad are especially welcome. Equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.
In its mission statement, Leibniz Universität Hannover attaches great importance to the international orientation of teaching and research. At the same time, it places major value on the intensive guidance and support of its students and on the university's close ties to the region and to Lower Saxony. Its professors are thus expected to take up residence in the Region of Hannover. Successful candidates who have reached the age of fifty by the time of appointment and who do not already have civil servant status will be given an employment contract.
Further information is available from the Head of the Appointment Committee, Prof. Wolfgang Nejdl, (Tel. 0511 762-19710, nejdl (at) kbs.uni-hannover.de).
Please submit your full application by May, 30st, 2014 to Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover Dean of the Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Appelstr. 11, 30167 Hannover
