Every year, at the International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization a contest is held, in which several researchers produce a visualization (made by hand or automatically generated) of a given dataset and compete on which one represents it the best, according to various criteria that include the overall presentation and the faithfulness to the original dataset. This year, two datasets were given:

  • Game of Thrones: This graph models the relations between characters from the HBO series "Game of Thrones" by season 8.
  • Mathematics Genealogy Project: This graph models supervisor/student relations between mathematicians.

Velitchko Filipov, Davide Ceneda, Alessio Arleo from CVAST and Michael Koller from TU Wien Faculty of Informatics participated to the contest with their visualization of the Game of Thrones dataset and earned the third place overall.
