==== Scope ====

Technical advances in display technology have led to new opportunities in many fields of application. This special track is dedicated to exploring the new possibilities that these technologies can bring to visual and interactive data exploration and analysis. There are a variety of new technologies available to be used for displaying information and for interacting with it in novel and innovative ways. We solicit submissions related (but not restricted) to visualization on novel displays (e.g., smart phones, tablets, large touch-sensitive surfaces) and in heterogeneous multi-display environments (e.g., ambient or smart environments). Submitted papers may analyze the technical or methodical challenges associated with such devices and environments, introduce new technical or algorithmic solutions to cope with these challenges, or present applications taking advantage of the new possibilities.

==== Topics ====

* Data visualization on mobile devices
* Data visualization in multi-display environments
* Data visualization in heterogeneous display environments
* Data visualization on tabletops and surfaces
* Adaptation strategies
* Distributed visualization
* Novel display environments for visualization
* Novel interaction techniques for visualization

==== Scope ====

==== Topics ====

* Data visualization on mobile devices
* Data visualization in multi-display environments
* Data visualization in heterogeneous display environments
* Data visualization on tabletops and surfaces
* Adaptation strategies
* Distributed visualization
* Novel display environments for visualization
* Novel interaction techniques for visualization
September 26-28, 2011

http://www.isvc.net

==== Scope ====

==== Topics ====

* Data visualization on mobile devices
* Data visualization in multi-display environments
* Data visualization in heterogeneous display environments
* Data visualization on tabletops and surfaces
* Adaptation strategies
* Distributed visualization
* Novel display environments for visualization
* Novel interaction techniques for visualization
* Novel domains for visualization
* Novel applications for visualization
* Human factors of visualization in heterogeneous display environments

==== Submission Procedure ====

Papers submitted to ISVC'11 must not have been previously published and must not be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. A complete paper should be submitted in camera-ready format. The length should match that intended for final publication. The page limit is 12 pages. In submitting a paper the author(s) agree that, upon acceptance, they will prepare the final manuscript in time for inclusion into the proceedings and will present the paper at the symposium.

==== Paper Publication ====

This is a fully refereed symposium. Papers will be reviewed with an emphasis on potential to contribute to the state of the art in the field. Each paper will receive two-three blind reviews and should not contain names or other information revealing authors' identity. Selection criteria include accuracy and originality of ideas, clarity and significance of results, and presentation quality. All papers accepted will appear in the symposium proceedings which will be published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.

Evaluation is now recognized as an important aspect within the information visualization community. However, work with the primary focus on such efforts is scarce and so is its acknowledgment. The aim of the IVE symposium is to provide a forum specifically devoted to the dissemination and exchange of research on theoretical and applied areas of evaluation of information visualization. The goal is to promote insights and reports from evaluation to advance a successful design and use of methods for information visualization.

Submissions to this symposium are invited in the range of areas at the intersection of evaluation, information visualization, perception and interaction. Submissions should have a main focus on evaluation and are encouraged to entail a full coverage of all aspects important for understanding the work undertaken, for example an experimental study should be described at a sufficient level of detail to allow it to be replicable.

The symposium seeks original papers in all areas concerning information visualization evaluation. Topics include, but are not limited to:

* Empirical investigations of user prerequisites for dealing adequately with information visualization techniques
* Evaluations of new or already existing techniques
* Evaluation metrics and tools
* Development of benchmark tasks
* Development and usage of test data sets
* Lessons learned from performed evaluations
* Survey of existing evaluation methods

{{Definition|A visualization is '''effective''' if it addresses the capabilities of the human visual system. Since perception, and hence the mental image of a visual representation, varies among users, effectiveness is user-dependent. Nonetheless, some general rules for effective visualization have been established in the visualization community.}}
