== Poster Submission Instructions ==

Authors are invited to submit poster papers that report work in progress, explore new problem areas, and new angles on existing work of known approaches. In addition to every poster, a two-page summary (one additional page for references) of the work has to be submitted. Please us the VGTC conference template (http://junctionpublishing.org/vgtc/Tasks/camera.html) for the summary paper. The posters themselves have no predefined format. Dimensions of the posters must be A0 (841mm x 1189mm / 33.1’’ x 46.8’’), and only portrait format is acceptable. Posters are not archival publications. The two-page summary papers will be distributed to the conference attendees on a USB flash drive. Authors whose posters are accepted to the conference will be asked to revise the poster and the summary paper according to the reviewer comments. The poster itself needs to be brought to the poster session of the conference, and at least one presenter per poster has to attend the conference.
== Poster Submission Instructions ==

'''Konstanz, Germany - October 17th to October 19th 2018'''

The BDVA 2018 Symposium is calling for contributions in the area of Visual Analytics and Immersive Analytics of Big Data. Submit your work and be part of a vibrant venue that will bring together an exciting programme with internationally renowned keynote speakers, special sessions, and workshops: http://bdva.net

Visual Analytics plays a major role in the analysis and decision-making processes for science, industry, and government organisations. It is one of the best ways we have for making sense of large and complex data sets. Reflecting its history of encouraging research into less-traditional approaches to visual analytics, this year BDVA has broadened scope to include the emerging field of Immersive Analytics. Immersive Analytics aims to support data understanding and decision making everywhere and by everyone, working individually or collaboratively. It aims to make embodied tools that are intuitive, engaging, and make the best possible use of all sensory channels. This may be achieved through the use of immersive virtual environment technologies, natural interfaces or responsive analytics, but is not tied to the use of any particular technology. Immersive Analytics brings promising opportunities to interact with Big Data coming from geo-science, biomedical applications, collective behaviour, text mining, crime analysis, among other application domains.

Symposium topics include but are not limited to:
* Theoretical Foundations of Immersive Analytics
* Immersive Storytelling
* Collaborative Visual and Immersive Analytics
* Personalized Visual and Immersive Analytics
* Use of Mixed Reality for Analytics including Situated Analytics
* Visual, Audio, Haptic, and Multisensory Data Presentation including Data Physicalization
* Human-Computer Interaction including Use of Natural Interfaces for Analytics
* Analytical Reasoning and Sense-making of Big or Complex Data
* Scalable Visual and Immersive Analytics including HPC for Visualisation
'''Submission Info'''

Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished regular papers of 4 to 9 pages (+ 2 pages for references) that report novel and mature work. Paper quality versus length will be assessed based on a contribution-per-page judgment. The symposium proceedings will be will be submitted for inclusion to IEEE Xplore. It is a condition of publication that accepted papers are presented by one of the authors. All accepted papers will be presented during the symposium. Presenters must register before the camera-ready deadline to avoid withdrawal from the symposium proceedings and programme. '''Abstracts are due on ''20 June 2018'' and full papers deadline is on ''1 July 2018''.'''

'''VisGuides: 2nd IEEE VIS 2018 Workshop on the Creation, Curation, Critique and Conditioning of Principles and Guidelines in Visualization'''

'''Berlin, Germany * October 21st or 22nd 2018'''

The VisGuides 2018 Workshop calls for submissions about Creation, Curation, Critique and Conditioning of Principles and Guidelines in Visualization. The ever-increasing global awareness, practise, and teaching of information and data visualization includes a growing audience of consumers and creators. We, as a scientific community must put careful emphasis on the collection and curation of knowledge in the area. The goal of this workshop is to discuss and consolidate guidelines, best practices, controversies, and success stories in the field of information visualization.

Submit your work and be part of a vibrant one-day workshop that will bring together an exciting programme with internationally renowned keynote speakers and panel discussions.

More info: http://workshop.visguides.org

'''Topics and Scope'''

The focus of this workshop is placed on a fundamental aspect: the need of a unified theoretical foundation or framework for underpinning all four components of creation, curation, critique and conditioning of design guidelines and principles for visualization and visual analytics. The challenge includes:
* '''Survey''' well-known principles or guideline; where they are applicable and when and where it is not, as well as examples for attesting either conditions,
* '''Discuss''' principles, guidelines, recommendations, based on the presented evidence (including examples of their uses and misuses), critique (including revision and improvement) and conditioning (i.e., education, training, and deployment) compiling the lessons learned from the usage of those guidelines with an impact beyond the scientific visualization community.
* Providing and building a '''platform''' for supporting the evolution and improvement of principles and guidelines, and fostering early proposal of principles and guidelines.

'''Submission Info'''

Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished short papers up to 4 pages (including references) that present innovative ideas, discourses, design concepts, empirical studies, theoretical frameworks, social models, and work-in-progress in the context of principles and guidelines in visualization and visual analytics. The topics of these presentations may include but not limited to the followings:
* Discussion of known guidelines in the visualization discipline.
* Comparative analysis of several guidelines for a visual representation.
* Debate Mechanisms from Social Sciences.
* Discourse Models for Computer Science.
* Requirements and gap analysis of principles and guidelines for one or more visualization tasks (or application domains).
* Evidence-based critique of a principle or guideline.
* Case studies of a principle/guideline in relation to a task, a visual design, and a group of users.
* New principle or guideline, or a major revision of an existing one.
* Mechanisms for curating principles and guidelines.
* Framework for critique of principles and guidelines.
* Mechanism for disseminating and deployment of established principles and guidelines.
* Discourse on long-term sustainable mechanism(s) for Creation, Curation, Critique and Conditioning activities.
* Discourse on the relationships and transformation between principles and guidelines and other theoretical aspects, such as taxonomies, conceptual frameworks and models, and quantitative laws.

'''Presentation and Review Process'''

Papers will be reviewed by Committee Members and accepted authors will present at the workshop. At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the workshop. Presentations will be in a panel format to encourage discussion: 4-5 participants will present together as part of a thematic panel. Each panel participant will be given a short (5-10 minutes) presentation of their work followed by a joint discussion.

'''Publication'''

All accepted short papers will be published online, accessible to the public, at a website dedicated to the workshop. We will follow the short position statements / work in progress notes stategy, outlines at the IEEE VIS Website: http://ieeevis.org/year/2018/info/call-participation/workshops.
This means, that papers will be published through the workshop with a DOI and on the conference USB key. Papers are considered published but not archival. They can hence be resubmitted to any IEEE VIS conference in the future.
